IKEA (köttbullar!)

Just over the Luxembourg border in Belgium, you’ll find IKEA Arlon. And while IKEA might first make you think of furniture, our visit was all about a lunch stop and those famous Swedish meatballs!

There were four of us: two wheelchair users,, Lex and me, accompanied by Dimitri and Sam from the tricentenaire. We were on our way to nearby LUXFLY and stopped at the IKEA Arlon restaurant before continuing our day.

It had been a long time since I’d last had IKEA’s famous köttbullar, so choosing my meal didn’t take much thinking. This time, the furniture could wait. The meatballs were the reason for our stop.

Wheelchair Accessibility: A Few Practical Details

When visiting a restaurant as a wheelchair user, the practical details matter. Here’s what I can share from our visit:

– Parking: We arrived early to avoid the crowds and found a parking spot easily.
– Adapted toilets: Toilets for people with reduced mobility are available next to the restaurant and on the ground floor and were perfectly maintained.

For our visit, arriving early worked well. A lunch stop, a plate of köttbullar and then onwards to LUXFLY — that was our plan for the day!

My name is Kimberly, and I visit the Tricentenaire "Centre de jour" in Bissen, Luxembourg, two days a week. In 2018, I had a brain hemorrhage in the area of the brain stem. Since then, I have been using a wheelchair due to balance problems. I speak slowly and unclearly, have some eyesight problems, and don't have much strength or coordination in my right hand and my right side. I am using my left hand to write, type and eat, but as I am originally right-handed, it is a bit of a challenge.

I live in Ettelbruck, Luxembourg, but I was born (1969) and raised in The Netherlands.
