A Wheelchair-Friendly Lunch Spot in Luxembourg City

Time for another day out with the Tricentenaire. We were six: three people in wheelchairs, including myself, Amel & Dimitri, responsible for us, and a job student, Noémi. We wanted to see an exhibition of the artist Fujiwara and, of course, eat at Chiche 🙂

We arrived around 11:30. The plan: spend an hour or so at the exhibition, have something to eat, then continue with the exhibition. In the end, we left around 15:15. We let the paintings and the artistic works ‘soak in’, read about or asked for their meaning — no rush.

Chiche is known in Luxembourg for its colourful Middle Eastern food. The menu offers plenty of tasty options such as hummus, falafel, salads, mezze and vegetarian dishes. It is a good choice if you enjoy fresh, flavourful food and generous plates. I’ve been to Chiche Etttelbruck before and it was equally good.

I ordered a Kefta; rolled up mince meat and pastry like mini cinnamon rolls on a white yogurt sauce with pomegranate apple and some crispy stuff on top. The dish was served with some yummy potatoes and a small salad.
I couldn’t make up this combination, but it was excellent!

I finished my lunch with an good espresso-machiato and a piece of cheesecake. Happy 🙂 🙂 .

Accessibility

As a wheelchair user, the first thing I always check is access. Here, the big advantage is that Chiche is located inside Mudam, a modern and accessible museum. The entrance is step-free, and the inside of the building is spacious.

The restaurant area is also quite comfortable to move around in. There is enough space between the tables, although it can of course depend on how busy it is.

Another important point: accessible toilets are available in the museum, on every floor, which makes the visit much easier and more relaxed.

We parked our minibus next to the museum, very practical.
Call the museum before you come with persons with reduced mobility, so they lower the poles and you can enter the museum area by car.

Atmosphere

Mudam Café (Chiche) at accessible Mudam in Luxembourg

The atmosphere at Chiche Mudam is calm, bright and welcoming. It does not feel too formal, so it works well for lunch with friends, a coffee break or a relaxed stop after visiting the museum.

I also liked the combination of good food and beautiful surroundings. Eating inside one of Luxembourg’s most iconic cultural buildings gives the place something special.

Final Thoughts

Overall, Chiche at Mudam is a wheelchair-friendly restaurant in Luxembourg that combines accessibility, good food and a lovely location. It is especially convenient if you are in Kirchberg or planning a visit to Mudam.

For me, it is a place I would happily return to — easy to access, pleasant to sit in, and full of flavour.

Good for: Lunch, museum visit, vegetarian options, wheelchair users

My name is Kimberly, and I visit the Tricentenaire "Centre de jour" in Bissen, Luxembourg, two days a week. In 2018, I had a brain hemorrhage in the area of the brain stem. Since then, I have been using a wheelchair due to balance problems. I speak slowly and unclearly, have some eyesight problems, and don't have much strength or coordination in my right hand and my right side. I am using my left hand to write, type and eat, but as I am originally right-handed, it is a bit of a challenge.

I live in Ettelbruck, Luxembourg, but I was born (1969) and raised in The Netherlands.
