Every year in September, Ettelbruck turns into Ettelbrooklyn for a colourful street festival full of theatre, music, food and surprises around town. It is one of those events where you see everyone enjoying themselves: young people, older visitors, families with children, and this year, even the weather decided to behave perfectly.
The concept is simple and very fun: theatre groups perform at set times on the main squares, while other acts walk around town. So you can either plan your route or just roll through the streets and see what you discover.
I went to see Double Take, a two-person acrobatic act, and Fabuloka, where three acrobats teamed up with a forklift. Yes, a forklift!
I also enjoyed the Mega Saxophone Orchestra, who played a wide variety of music in front of the CAPE conservatoire.
Along the way, I passed a giant hamster wheel, a drawing photo booth and several walking acts. There was always something happening.
Food was also easy to find. Local clubs sold everything from “pain saucisse” and waffles to Portuguese specialities. It gave the festival a very local and welcoming atmosphere.
Wheelchair Accessibility at Ettelbrooklyn
For wheelchair users, Ettelbrooklyn is quite comfortable to visit. Since the festival takes place in the centre of Ettelbruck, most areas are easy to reach.
Parking is available near the Deich Hall, including parking spaces for people with reduced mobility.
Wheelchair accessible toilets can be found in several places:
– public toilets near the bus stop on Place Marie-Adelaïde
– public toilets between the church and the town hall
– Restaurant Am Carré on Place Marie-Adelaïde
– CAPE conservatoire
– inside the building where the Cactus supermarket is located
There may be more, but these I kmow of.
My Verdict
Ettelbrooklyn Street Fest is a lively, family-friendly and wheelchair-accessible event in Ettelbrück, Luxembourg. With performances, music, food and enough accessible toilet options, it is definitely worth adding to your September calendar.
